ROCHESTER, Minn. – They may have lost an extra hour of sleep because of Daylight Savings, but it didn't take long for the Bethel University softball team to wake up and pour in a dominant effort in its final indoor game of the season. The Royals posted a pair of one-hit shutouts defeating Knox College and Augustana (IL) by identical 9-0 scores in five innings.
Bethel wasted no time at the plate driving in six runs in the opening frame. The Royals sent all nine hitters to the plate where eight of the nine reached base. Consecutive RBI doubles from
Hannah Schmidt,
Allie Fauth and
Lexi DeBace brought in BU's three remaining runs.
Schmidt tossed four scoreless innings allowing one hit and striking out one while improving to 2-0 on the year.
Ellie Rogers pitched the fifth striking out one and getting the other two hitters to fly out.
The bats didn't go to sleep in game two against Augustana.
Calli Maki tripled to bring in Fauth in the first. A handful of infield singles by
Amanda Gemuenden,
Cortney Hokanson and
Allie Fauth expanded the Royals lead to four.
A pinch-hit three RBI double for
Sadie Hanzalik in the fifth capped off a five run inning for the Royals.
Kayla Simacek tossed two scoreless innings before Maki came in for relief picking up her second win of the season.
