No. 4 Gustavus Ends Bethel's Season with Series Sweep

The No. 4-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College Gusties swept the Bethel Royals to claim the MIAC regular season championship while also ending the Royals season as Bethel misses the MIAC Playoffs for just the third time in the last nine seasons.

Friday
The Royals were shutout on senior night in Bethel University Arena by the Gusties, 4-0. Gustavus scored twice in the first period and then tacked on single goals in the second and third. The second period goal came on a power play for Gustavus. GAC outshot BU 37-16 in the game. Mallory Tidona made 33 saves in goal with 14 of those coming in the third period. Both teams were called for just one penalty in the game with the Gusties capitalizing just four seconds into their only power play.

Saturday
The Gusties shutout the Royals again on Saturday, this time by a 3-0 score in St. Peter. GAC scored once in each period with all three goals coming from freshman Molly McHugh. Mallory Tidona made 34 saves in net for Bethel as the Royals were outshot 37-13.

The Bethel losses combined with Saint Mary's defeating Saint Benedict on Saturday gives the Cardinals of Saint Mary's the fifth and final MIAC Playoff spot by tie breaker. The Royals season ends with a 8-15-2 overall record and 6-10-2.
