BLAINE, Minn. - The Bethel University women's hockey team was swept in their MIAC series with the Augsburg Auggies by scores of 2-0 on Friday and 6-0 on Saturday. The Royals offense, after starting the 2020 portion off with 11 goals in the first three games, has failed to produce any goals in their last three games.
Saturday
Augsburg scored once in the first period to gain an early lead before an onslaught of goals midway through the second period. The Auggies scored three times within a five minute span and then added two more scores in the third period for the 6-0 final. Augsburg had double digit shots in each period in holding a 36-20 overall advantage. The Royals were called for two penalties and Augsburg was sent to the box once but neither team scored on their power plays.
Friday
The Auggies scored just 6:37 into the game and that was the lone score until Augsburg added an empty net goal with just 18 seconds remaining. The Royals got off just 12 shots on goal in the game and did not have a single power play opportunity. Augsburg was not whistled for any penalties while the Royals where sent to the box three times, twice in the second half of the third period.
Mallory Tidona allowed just a single goal while making 32 saves, including 12 each in the second and third periods.
Bethel now stands at 4-10 on the season and 2-6 in the MIAC. The Royals will be back in action next weekend against the Saint Mary's University Cardinals. Friday's opener will take place in Winona at 7 p.m. with Saturday's finale at Bethel University Arena at 4 p.m.
