ST. PETER, Minn. – The fifth-seeded Bethel University men's tennis team closed out its 2019 campaign with a 5-0 loss to top-seeded and nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus in the MIAC Playoff semifinals Thursday evening. The Royals end their season with a 12-10 overall record.
"We gave it all we had, couldn't be prouder," said Head Coach
Drew Fernelius. " We just didn't have enough gas in the tank and you have to give Gustavus credit. They are unbelievably good. It was a great year for us and it's time to start building for next year!"
Gustavus jumped out to a 3-0 lead taking all three doubles matches. The Gusties then took the No. 2 singles and No. 6 singles match to secure the victory.

Hunter Fernelius ends his collegiate career having not missed a single match in four years and 133 career wins. With his doubles partner
Jason Reilly, the duo went 9-5 as the Royals top doubles pair.
Nick Knudsen and
Joey Mueller at No. three doubles went 9-1 an dwere 10-4 together for the season.
In singles play, Fernelius posted a 13-7 record as the Royals top singles player.
Erik Beckers held strong at No. 3 the second half of the season going 8-2 and posting an 11-9 overall record. Freshman
Jason Reilly was 11-7 for the year.
