ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University baseball team earned a 12-1 bounce back win over the University of Wisconsin-Superior Thursday evening at Hargis Park.
The Royals improved to 20-15 on the year. Bethel closes out conference play on Saturday against Concordia College in a doubleheader before hosting the College of St. Scholastica on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. on both days.
Bethel put up 17 hits in the nine-inning game scoring early and often.
Mitch Butvilas got the offense going with a two-run bomb over the left-center wall in the opening frame.
Starter
Jake Marsh (3-4) picked up the win in his predetermined two inning start giving up one hit and striking out three.
Back-to-back RBI ground outs by
Ty Koehn and
Thomas Friesen put the Royals up 4-1 after three innings of play.
The offense continued to swing hot bats with
Sam Horner continuing his 3-for-5 game with a two-out single up the middle in the fourth.
Marcus Krupke picked a good time to smack his first homer of the year over the right field fence making it 6-1.
Another crooked number in the fifth and a three-run sixth pushed the Royals lead to double digits. Butvilas made it 12-1 in the seventh recording his third RBI of the game with a fly out to right that was deep enough to score
Nick Kulseth.
Between five relief pitchers, Bethel gave up one run on two hits and struck out seven combined Yellowjackets through the final seven innings.
