Four Royals Honored in MIAC Baseball Postseason Awards

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced the 2019 MIAC Baseball Awards on Tuesday that saw four Royals among those honored. Earning All-Conference accolades was Brady Leahy while Joey Fredrickson and Marcus Krupke were named to the All-Defensive Team. Senior Sam Horner was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Junior right-hander Brady Leahy went a perfect 6-0 on the year with a 3.60 ERA en route to his first MIAC All-Conference honor. Leahy made 19 appearances out of the bullpen and started in one game for Bethel this season. In 30 innings of work he allowed 16 runs, 12 of which were earned, while striking out 10 and allowing seven walks. He also picked up a team-high three saves all of which came in one-run ball games. He picked up wins in two of his final six appearances both which came on the road. Making 11 appearances in MIAC play, he went 4-0 with a 1.76 ERA against league opponents. In the 15.1 innings of relief he allowed six runs, three of which were earned, walked three and struck out five.

For the second straight season Joey Fredrickson was named to the MIAC All-Defensive Team. The junior third baseman picked up 79 assists in the hot corner – 43 assists during MIAC play – and helped turn nine double plays. Fredrickson held a .979 fielding percentage for the year.

Marcus Krupke earns his first MIAC All-Defensive Team selection. The freshman shortstop collected a team-best and conference second-best 106 assists along with 48 putouts while being a part of 19 double plays. During MIAC play, he led the league in assists with 57. Krupke held a .975 fielding percentage for the season and a .977 fielding percentage during MIAC play.

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC also announced the 13th-annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for baseball. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. Senior outfielder Sam Horner was selected to represent Bethel on this prestigious list.
