ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a 7-2 victory of Hamline University Sunday afternoon at Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
The Royals enter the postseason with an 11-9 overall record and 6-3 in MIAC play which put them in a three-way tie for third. Bethel received the five seed that was determined by virtue of total match victories between Saint John's, Macalester and the Royals. BU travels to Macalester on Tuesday, April 30 for the opening round of the MIAC Playoffs beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Bethel took a 2-1 lead winning the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches.
Erik Beckers and
Zach Kantor won their third straight as a pair 8-6.
Jason Reilly and
Joey Mueller played together for the first time since Feb. 16 taking the No. 3 doubles match 8-0.
The Royals took the bottom five singles matches.
Erik Beckers extended his singles winning streak to six games with a 6-3, 6-2 decision. Freshman
Andrew Jenson picked up his first collegiate win taking the No. 6 singles match 6-3, 6-3.
Zach Kantor (7-5, 6-7, 15-13) and
Joey Mueller (2-6, 6-4, 10-7) both went the distance to win three set thrillers.
