ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – In its first home outdoor match of the year, the No. 38-ranked Bethel University women's tennis team defeated Macalester 9-0 Tuesday evening at the Ona Orth Athletic Complex.
With the win Bethel moves to 16-3 on the year and 6-1 in the MIAC locking in at least a top four spot in the MIAC Playoffs. The Royals take on St. Thomas next Tuesday, April 23 in a match that features the two teams who are currently tied for third in the standings.
The duo of
Maggie Riermann and
Grace Riermann won the top doubles match 8-1 while
Jill Weinzettel and
Mackenzie Novak pushed their winning streak to seven matches with an 8-6 win.
The Royals top four singles won in straight sets while
Sydney Rott battled to a three set win at No. 5 (6-3, 5-7, 10-6). Megan Schuler rounded out the singles with a 7-5 win in the opening set before making quick work in the second at 6-0. Â
