No. 3 Wooster Tops Royals in Spring Break Finale

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Bethel University baseball closed out its 11-game spring break trip falling to the third ranked College of Wooster, 15-6.

The Royals leave The Sunshine State with a 7-4 record and will hit the road on Wednesday to take on Bethany Lutheran College in a non-conference doubleheader. BU opens MIAC play on Saturday, March 30 against St. Thomas at Hargis Park. The doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m.

Freshman Ty Koehn was a force to be reckoned with at the plate. The designated hitter went 4-for-5 with three RBI in the six hole. Junior Mitch Butvilas was 3-for-4 with two runs and a double.

Koehen tied things up at 1-1 in the top of the third with a single to left center scoring Marcus Krupke who led the inning off with a walk.

Wooster responded right back jumping on BU starter Jake Marsh with a five-run third inning. Marsh suffered the loss allowing seven runs in four innings of work.

Both teams put a tally in the run column the next two innings as the Royals trailed 8-3. In the sixth Bethel got one back when Koehn singled to left scoring Butvilas who reached earlier on a double.

The Bethel bullpen couldn't contain the Fighting Scots hot bats. Wooster plated three runs in the sixth before putting up a pair in the seventh and eighth. Bethel was able to push a run across in its final two at bats before falling 15-6.
