Spring break 2019 is in full swing for Bethel Athletics as many teams have made their way to warmer climates for the week away from the Bethel University campus in Arden Hills. The Royals continue to see success in The Sunshine State as the softball team continues to swing hot bats while women's tennis programs picked up their sixth consecutive win. Softball: Bethel 6, Manchester 1 (Box Score) | Bethel 7, Mount Saint Mary 0 (Box Score)
The Royals continued their hot hitting ways as well as their dominance in the circle. The highlight of the day was freshman
Calli Maki throwing a gem against Mount Saint Mary recording a career-high 11 strikeouts while tossing a two-hit shutout. Against Manchester
Hannah Schmidt went the distance allowing one run, which was unearned, and struck out three.
Allie Fauth led the Royals going 6-for-4 with four runs.
Mariah Uphoff and
Kayla Hokanson drove in three runs while
Cortney Hokanson had two RBIs. BU balanced out its scoring in its 6-1 victory over Manchester. Against Mount Saint Mary a four-run third inning highlighted by C. Hokanson's two RBI double led the Royals to a 7-0 victory.
The Royals enjoy a break from action on Tuesday before returning to play Wednesday against Plattsburgh State and Concordia University (Wis.).
Women's Tennis: Bethel 8, Calvin 1 (Box Score)
Bethel is off to one of its program's best starts at 9-1 overall after defeating Calvin College 8-1 Monday afternoon. The top three singles players in
Grace Riermann,
Maggie Riermann and
Mackenzie Novak stayed perfect on the season. The Royals took the remaining singles matches as the bottom half of the lineup did not drop a set.
In doubles play, the No. 1 Riermann duo and No. 3 doubles
Sydney Rott and
Meghan Schuler took their matches by a score of 8-4.
BU will take on Hope College tomorrow in doubleheader action with the men.
Men's Tennis: Illinois Institute of Technology 6, Bethel 3
The Royals led 2-1 after doubles play taking the top two doubles matches. As singles play began, inclement weather entered the area which then forced the matches to be moved to clay courts.
In singles play
Erik Beckers captured the only BU point taking the No. 2 singles match 6-1, 6-2.
Women's Golf:
The Royals took on Augsburg at New Smyrna Beach Golf Club Monday afternoon.
Elena Zaborniak and
Ana Schwarz won their two matches against Augsburg's top two players.
Hannah Garcia and
Makenna Pearson were defeated as the two teams split. In the exhibition play both matches were decided on the final two holes.
Bethel's
Katie Engelking defeated teammate
Nicole Miller in a friendly match that saw a back and forth battle of amazing shots.
Baseball
The Royals baseball team enjoyed their day off spending some time at Fort Myers Beach. Bethel returns to the diamond tomorrow against Bethany College at noon ET.
