WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. - The Bethel University women's tennis team remained a perfect 3-0 on the season after defeating the College of St. Scholastica 8-1 Friday evening.
The top doubles team of
Grace Riermann and
Maggie Riermann picked up a win at 8-2 to start the night.
Mackenzie Novak and
Jill Weinzettel worked their way to an 8-3 win before
Sydney Rott and
Libby Kurtzman dropped the No. 3 doubles match 8-4.
In singles play,
Grace Riermann highlighted the night at No. 1 singles rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win.
Maggie Riermann earned a team point with a strong No. 2 doubles match. After taking the first set 6-2, she found herself down 4-2 in set two before coming back strong to take it in straight sets with a 7-5 decision in set two.
Mackenzie Novak went toe to toe with Katelyn Rice at No. 3 singles in the first set. Novak came away with the win by scores of 6-4, 6-1. At No. 4 singles
Jill Weinzettel picked up a 6-4, 6-1 decision while
Meghan Schuler took No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-1.
Sydney Rott at No. 5 singles earned the Royals eighth team point in comeback fashion. Rott dropped a tough first set 6-2 before earning a bounce back win in the second 6-2. In the eventual tie breaker Rott dug deep to pull out a 10-8 decision giving the Royals a clean sweep in singles play.
The Royals return to action next weekend as they take on Division I Valparaiso University on Friday at Lifetime in White Bear Lake beginning at 6:30 p.m.
