Third Period Spurt Gives Royals 4-1 Win at St. Olaf

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team used three third period goals to defeat St. Olaf College Friday evening on the road, 4-1.

Freshman forward Chase DiBari scored his first two collegiate goals in back-to-back fashion including the game-winner in the third period to improve the Royals to 4-18-2 overall and 4-9-2 in MIAC play. The Royals and St. Olaf will finish out the series tomorrow night in Blaine at Bethel University Arena. Puck drop for the regular season finale is set for 7 p.m.

In less than four minutes apart, DiBari had given the Royals a two goal lead midway through the third despite limited opportunities for Bethel early in the period. Bethel worked from its defensive zone before DiBari controlled in the attacking zone zipping his way through three St. Olaf players. He found himself on the glove side of goalie Noah Parker where he went top shelf at the 8:29 mark to make it 2-1.

Exactly 3:28 later, DiBari came up with a loose puck that Brandon Baker pushed away from just outside the blue line. DiBari worked himself all over the St. Olaf zone to fire a wrister into the back of the net. With three minutes remaining in regulation, Josiah Roen put the icing on the cake scoring the empty netter to make it 4-1.

Netminder Ridge Gerads kept St. Olaf off the scoreboard until the 11:11 mark in the second period as St. Olaf found the equalizer. Gerads strong presence in the crease let the offense do its work the rest of the way as Gerads finished the night with 39 saves.

Special teams took over the first two periods as Dallas Marvin started out the scoring with a power play goal at the 8:27 mark in the second with assists from Johan Kling and Nick Ketola. After a scoreless first, Bethel killed off its second penalty of the night as the penalty kill went 2-for-2 on the evening.

The Royals took over in the final period despite being outshot 13-9. The Oles outshot the Royals for the game 40-27.
