Royals Close Out Regular Season with Convincing Win at Hamline, 89-55

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethel University women's basketball team closed out the 2018-19 season with an 89-55 victory at Hamline University Saturday afternoon inside historic Hutton Arena.

Four players reached double figures for Bethel in a balanced effort. The Royals finish the regular season on a five game winning streak with a 19-6 overall mark and 13-5 record in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

Senior center Hannah Johnson led the way eight rebounds and 21 points, 13 of which came in the second half. Junior forward Taite Anderson got hot early scoring 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Junior guard Haylee Barker chipped 11 points to round out the starters while sophomore forward Elizabeth Schwarz chipped in 13 points in 16 minutes of action.

The Royals surrendered the game's first four points before a layup by Taite Anderson put Bethel on the board. A 3-pointer from Makenna Pearson capped a three minute 13-5 run by BU to tie things up at 15. A layup by the Pipers just before the horn sent the Royals into the first break trailing by two.

The second quarter consisted of runs as Bethel chipped into the deficit outscoring Hamline 31-12 during the 10 minute stretch. Barker's layup at the 7:57 mark gave the Royals their first lead of the game at 23-22. BU closed the half on a 17-5 over the final 4:30 to take a 47-29 lead into the intermission. The Royals forced 19 first half turnovers which turned into 24 points.

Johnson added on to her standout performance in the second half scoring nine straight to open the Royal lead up to 60-33 with 3:55 remaining in the third. BU worked its way to the charity stripe to close out the period leading 68-44.

Tessah Anderson's layup with 1:45 left in the fourth gave Bethel its largest lead of the contest at 84-49. It was the Royal bench that did the production in the fourth once again as they cruised BU to outscore the Pipers 21-11 in the final frame.
