Bethel Turns in Dominant Effort at Macalester

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethel University women's basketball team turned in another complete effort on both ends of the floor with an 85-45 victory at Macalester Saturday afternoon.

The Royals forced 28 turnovers turning that into 38 points while shooting 52.2 percent (32-of-61) from the floor. For the first time in program history the Royals have won their first seven contests of the year and are a perfect 4-0 to start MIAC play. BU heads to St. Catherine on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. tip prior to the holiday break.

11 different Royals found the scoring column Saturday afternoon as BU was led by senior forward Taite Anderson with 19 points. Junior forward Elizabeth Schwarz scored 12 points while Haylee Barker had 15 points and four assists. Bella Williams dished out a team-high six assists.

Bethel set the tone with a 9-0 run over the opening 5:50. Pearson knocked down her second three of the game making it 14-4 with 2:28 to go. The Royals held Macalester to eight first quarter points leading 19-8 after the first 10 minutes.

BU caused the Scots to turn it over 10 times in the second quarter while Haylle Barker went off for 11 points sending the Royals into the locker room with a 39-17 lead.

The Royals had its best offensive quarter in the third outscoring Macalester 31-9. BU went on an 18-0 run to open the second half before giving up a layup at the 4:50 mark. The margin hit 40 with a Taite Anderson free throw at the 2:01 left mark. BU had its largest lead of the contest at 73-26 on a 3-pointer from Kat Brown-Erdal in transition.
