NORTHFIELD, Minn. – One could say another name for the Bethel University women's basketball team would be road warriors. Wrapping up a long month away from home, the Royals captured their fifth consecutive road win Wednesday evening with a 78-42 victory at St. Olaf.
Building a 36-17 lead at the break the Royals used a 42 point second half to improve to 9-3 on the year and 3-2 in MIAC play. After a lengthy absence from the Robertson Center the Royals return home on Saturday, Jan. 5 as they host St. Catherine University at 1 p.m.
Junior forward
Taite Anderson led all scorers with 20 points to go along with four rebounds while
Hannah Johnson chipped in 13 points and six rebounds. Sophomore forward
Makenna Pearson tallied nine points along with a game-high seven assists while freshman guard
Tessah Anderson added nine points off the bench.
The Royals got it done inside holding the edge on points in the paint by a 40-20 margin while also forcing 33 turnovers that turned into 37 points.
Bethel led from the opening tip using a strong first quarter to jump out to an early 19-9 lead on the Oles. Continuing to work it inside, a handful of layups sent the Royals with a comfortable 19 point lead into the break.
St. Olaf came out of the locker room strong as the Royals narrowly outscored the Oles 21-18 in the third. Bethel kicked it back into gear seeing production from the bench to outscore St. Olaf 21-7 in the final quarter.
