St. Thomas Takes Series Finale 6-0 Over Royals

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team dropped the series finale to St. Thomas Saturday evening on the road, 6-0.

Following last night's double overtime tie, it didn't take long for either team to get its skates underneath them. UST took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission after scoring 6:38 into the period.

In the second, the Royals killed off an early penalty before going back on the kill six minutes later. This time the Royals weren't as fortunate as the Tommies secured the puck in the neutral zone to go 3-on-1. With quick puck distribution Jack Christensen extended St. Thomas' lead to 2-0 11:18 into the period. The Tommies put up two more goals within the span of 1:37 of each other to make it 4-0.

Bethel had the opportunity to deny the Tommies of a shutout as they were headed to the power play with 2:14 left in the second. As the power play was nearing the end, UST went the other way to make it 5-0 on a shorthanded goal with 45 seconds remaining before the intermission.

UST scored their sixth of the game with 18:19 left in the third.

Ridge Gerads made his third straight start in goal for Bethel. In two periods of action Gerads collected 26 saves. Aaron Furlano played the final 20 minutes in goal and collected 12 saves while allowing one goal.

The Royals return to Bethel University Arena on Friday, Jan. 25 as they host Hamline University in the weekend series opener. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
