MOORHEAD, Minn. – In a balanced attack that saw 10 different players score, the Bethel University women's basketball team cruised to an 83-43 road victory at Concorida College Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Auditorium.
The Royals never trailed in the contest as a 49-point first half improves Bethel to 11-4 on the season and 5-3 in MIAC play. BU ends the short two-game road trip on Wednesday, Jan. 16 traveling to St. Thomas for a 7 p.m. tip.
Senior
Hannah Johnson led all scorers with her game-high 21 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Junior
Taite Anderson followed Johnson up with 19 points and five steals while sophomore
Makenna Pearson registered 14 points. Off the bench, freshman
Tessah Anderson scored nine points.
Bethel opened the game on a 16-3 run forcing the Cobbers to a 5:21 scoring drought. Continual layups from the Royals gave them a 22-7 lead after the first quarter.
The Royals opened the second quarter scoring on four straight possessions via the layup. A 27-point second quarter sent BU with a 49-22 lead into the locker room after shooting 20-of-35 (57.1 percent) from the field.
BU overcame a 2:52 scoring drought in the third with a layup from
Elizabeth Schwarz. From that point the Royals closed the third quarter on a 12-5 to grab their largest lead at 7-33.
The Royals bench went to midway into the fourth outscoring the Cobber reserves 24-17 in the game.
