MOORHEAD, Minn.—Bethel University's baseball team picked up two critical wins on the road Monday against Concordia College by final scores of 4-1 and 2-1. The MIAC victories were barn-burners, as the Cobbers (14-17, 7-9 MIAC) had the go-ahead run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning in both games. But
Jake Marsh came out of the bullpen in both contests and closed the door, helping the Royals (25-7, 12-4 MIAC) leave Moorhead with a sweep.
Â
BU jumped in front immediately in game one when
Austin Ledin hit a solo home run to left center with two outs. The Royals added to their lead in the third when
Mitch Butvilas hit an RBI-single to right field, which scored
John Leach. Concordia narrowed the gap in the fourth when a three-base wild pitch followed a two-out single, making it 2-1. But Butvilas added to Bethel's lead with an RBI-double in the fifth and an RBI sac fly in the seventh to make the score 4-1. The Cobbers loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but
Jake Marsh ended the threat by striking out the only batter he faced.
Â
Michael Bohlke continued his sensational junior campaign, as he earned his fourth win of the season by allowing four hits and one walk in 6.2 innings pitched.
Jake Marsh earned save No. 5 with his strikeout in the seventh.
Â
The Royals recorded six hits during the first seven-inning affair.
Mitch Butvilas went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI, while
Austin Ledin finished 2-for-3 with a walk, home run, RBI, and two runs.
Â
Game two was even more intense than game one, as neither team recorded a hit—let alone scored a run—until the fifth inning. Bethel finally broke the silence in the top of the fifth with two runs thanks to four consecutive one-out singles.
Michael Wesner started the train, and
Jake Schubert,
Sam Horner, and
John Leach all followed suit. Horner and Leach were both credited with an RBI. Concordia responded in the bottom of the fifth with their first hit and run of the game, which made the score 2-1. The Cobbers then put a runner on in the bottom of the seventh, but
Jake Marsh threw a scoreless frame once again and walked off the mound with his sixth save of the season.
Â
Noah Luedtke improved to 4-0 on the season after allowing two hits and one walk while striking out three in 6.0 innings pitched.
Â
Bethel tallied six hits again in game two.
Michael Wesner went 2-for-2 with one run, while
Sam Horner finished 1-for-2 with two walks, one stolen base, and one RBI.

BU's week continues on Thursday, May 3 when they travel to St. Paul to face the University of St. Thomas at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. The Royals then welcome Augsburg at UW-Stout to Hargis Park for twin bills on May 5 and 6 at 1 p.m.
