NORTHFIELD—Bethel University's softball team continued their opening week of conference play with a doubleheader against Concordia College Sunday morning at the Dundas Dome in Northfield, Minn. The Royals (11-9, 4-2 MAIC) topped the Cobbers (4-13, 0-4 MIAC) in both games by final scores of 8-0 (5 inn.) and 8-1.

BU put up six runs in the first inning of game one, highlighted by four straight singles to begin the game.
Allie Fauth later recorded a two-RBI single as did
Alexa Hanowski with two outs. The Royals plated another run in the second on a wild pitch and the eighth and final run in the fourth with an RBI-walk by
Laura Okonek.

Mariah Uphoff led Bethel in the first game, going 2-for-3 with two runs, while
Jana Roste,
Wendy Roberts,
Amanda Gemuenden,
Allie Fauth,
Hannah Schmidt, and
Alexa Hanowski all finished 1-for-2. BU totaled three walks and four stolen bases.

Hannah Schmidt tossed a one-hitter inside the circle for the Royals. Not only did Schmidt allow just one hit, but she also gave up zero walks and struck out three in the shutout.

Schmidt was equally good in game two, allowing one unearned run in 7.0 innings pitched. Schmidt surrendered seven hits and one walk, while striking out five in the complete-game effort.

After allowing the unearned run in the top of the first frame, Bethel scored three runs in the bottom of the first, three in the third, and two in the fifth for a total of eight runs.Â

Allie Fauth continued her terror, going 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Hannah Schmidt went 2-for-2 with one run and three RBI, while
Amanda Gemuenden also went 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Bethel's nonconference doubleheader against St. Scholastica on Tuesday, April 10, so as of now BU's next matchup will be against St. Catherine on Thursday, April 12 at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.
