ST. PAUL — The Bethel University softball team got one final tune-up against UW-Stevens Point Tuesday afternoon before their annual spring break trip to Florida. One day after a dramatic extra-inning win—and eventual sweep—over UW-Superior, the Royals (3-1) suffered a heartbreaking extra-inning loss in game one before outlasting the Pointers (4-2) in game two.
Leading 3-0 heading into the top of the seventh, Bethel's defense surrendered three runs (one earned), which allowed Stevens Point to eventually win in the eighth by a final score of 6-4. BU tallied six hits and four walks during Tuesday's opener, while the Pointers recorded nine hits and one walk.
Hannah Schmidt yielded six runs—three earned— on nine hits and one walk, while striking out two in the 8.0 inning affair.
The Royals had a short memory, however, as they came out with three runs in the top of the first in game two, followed by two more in the second, one in the third, one in the fourth, and one in the sixth for the 8-4 triumph. Bethel smashed six hits, including two doubles, and patiently accepted seven walks, while limiting UW-Stevens Point to six hits and two walks.
Amanda Gemuenden allowed four runs—one earned—on six hits and two walks, while striking out three in the complete-game win.
Emily Eaton finished the day 4-for-8 with one double, one run, and a team-leading four RBI.
Wendy Roberts went 2-for-6 with three runs and one RBI.
Bethel now travels to Clermont, Fla., where they'll play 10 nonconference games throughout the duration of spring break.
