Royals Strong Doubles Play Not Enough to Beat Cobbers
Box score
WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. - Bethel University men's tennis suffered their third straight loss Sunday afternoon as they fell to Concordia College by a score of 3-6. The Royals (4-3, 1-2 MIAC) were unable to get it going in singles play as the Cobber's (7-6, 2-3 MIAC) were able to sweep the category.
The Royals started the day with a 9-7 No. 1 doubles win by
Hunter Fernelius and
Zach Kantor. Jacob Bartels and
Zeke Delain followed that up with an 8-4 win. No. 3 doubles team Nick Knudson and
Noah Ridgway finished up with an 8-2 victory. Going into singles play up 3-0, BU was unable to keep this momentum going as they dropped all six matches, three of which went into a third set tie breaker.
"Really disappointing loss but the guys played their hearts out," Head coach
Drew Fernelius said. "You've got to give Concordia a lot of credit for bouncing back like that."
Bethel tennis is off to Hawaii! The Royals leave for the Aloha state on Thursday and are scheduled for a match against the University of Hawaii at Hilo on Friday, March 9. The Royals also have a match with Hawaii Pacific University, a Division II school, on Friday, March 16.
