12-Game Win Streak Snapped in 15-Inning Loss to St. Scholastica

ST. PAUL, Minn.—Bethel University's baseball team saw it's program-record 12-game win streak come to a close in gut-wrenching fashion late Wednesday evening when falling to the College of St. Scholastica by a final score of 3-2. The record didn't fall easily, as it took 15 innings to decide a winner between the Saints (6-3) and the Royals (12-2).

CSS took the initial lead with a run in the top of the first before BU answered with two unearned runs in the bottom of the second. St. Scholastica evened the game up in the fourth and then finally pushed the game-winning run across the plate with an unearned run in the top of the 15th frame at 11 p.m.

Bethel had several chances to knock out the Saints. The Royals had two runners on with one out in the eighth and ninth and then had the bases loaded with one out in the 12th, but St. Scholastica mitigated the threat in each inning. CSS also had very good opportunities to take the lead in the 11th and 14th, but BU escaped those frames unscathed.

Joey Fredrickson had a solid day at the plate, finishing 2-for-4 with two walks and one run, while John Leach was 1-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored.

The Royals intentionally through a plethora of pitchers, including Michael Bohlke, Carson Selin, Noah Luedtke, and David Cushing—four starters. Relievers Jake Marsh and Joel Virshek also saw time on the bump. Together these six pitchers allowed three earned runs on 15 hits, five walks, and four hit-by-pitches in 15.0 innings pitched. They struck out 15 of the 69 batters faced.

BU will look to start a new streak right away Thursday when they travel right back down Snelling Avenue for a nonconference doubleheader against the University of Northwestern-St. Paul at 4 and 6 p.m. Live stats and video will be available.
