Huge First Half Lifts Royals Past Pipers

ST. PAUL—The Bethel Royals finished off National Girls and Women in Sports Day with a convincing 72-43 victory over the Hamline Pipers. The Royals (16-6, 11-4 MIAC) put a struggling Hamline squad (4-18, 3-12 MIAC) away early. BU held the Pipers to just a 15 point first half.

Bethel dominated the first half shooting 50 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from three. Hamline on the other hand struggled from the field shooting a lowly 20.7 percent from the field and were 0-6 from behind the arc. The defense was firing on all cylinders in the first half for the Royals as they had eight steals, five blocks and forced nine turnovers.

Hamline came out in the third quarter and got a couple of three's to go down and made some layups, but the Royals had too big of a lead for it to make a difference.

Bethel's strength and size inside was too much for the Pipers to handle tonight scoring 30 points in the paint led by Hannah Johnson who had 12 points in 20 minutes. Angie Kirchoff contributed in all areas yet again tonight scoring six points and adding four assists and grabbed two steals.  The Bench saw some extended minutes tonight and the entire 15 (man??) woman roster saw minutes tonight.

The Royals will look to push their win streak to four when they face Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. in St. Peter.
