Royals Remain Untouched with Pair of 9-0 Sweeps
Bethel University men's tennis stayed perfect on the season with a couple more 9-0 match wins Saturday afternoon to bring them to 3-0 on the season. The men faced off against Wartburg College and Bethany Lutheran College in their double header at the Owatonna Tennis Club.
In the first match of the day (against Wartburg) the Royals No. 1 doubles team
Hunter Fernelius and
Zach Kantor won their match 8-4. The No. 2 (Jacob Bartels and
Zeke Delain) and 3 (Nick Knudson and
Noah Ridgway) doubles teams for the Royals won their matches 8-2 and 8-0 respectively.
Hunter Fernelius won his No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-3. The No. 2 singles match went to
Zach Kantor by a score of 6-3, 6-2.
The second match of the day against Bethany Lutheran proved to be more of the same for the Royals. They got their second 9-0 win of the day thanks to an 8-6 win by the No. 1 doubles team (
Zeke Delain and
Zach Kantor), an 8-2 win by the No. 2 doubles team (
Joey Mueller and
Noah Ridgway) and an 8-3 win by the No. 3 doubles team (
Austin Buyse and Jacob Bartels).
Hunter Fernelius got a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win, Nick Knudson won 6-1, 6-2 and
Peter Lindberg earned a strong 6-2, 6-0 victory to round out the top 3 Royals singles. The Royals didn't drop a set all day en route to a 3-0 start to the season.
"I'm happy with our start to the season," Head coach
Drew Fernelius said. "But we've obviously got a long way to go and a lot of work to get done."
Men's Tennis is back in action and begins their conference slate next Saturday, February 10 at 12 p.m. when they travel to Winona, MN to play Saint Mary's University. SMU is 1-2 on the season heading into their matchup with the Royals.Â
