WINONA, Minn. - The Bethel University men's hockey team took a shootout victory over the Saint Mary's University Cardinals for the second straight night. The game ended in a 3-3 tie but the Royals won the shootout to claim the extra point in the standings by a 2-1 margin.
The Cardinals struck first in the game just 3:36 into the first period. The Royals would take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission however after a pair of power play goals.
Will Reedy scored the first goal at 8:31 with
Jackson Purvis getting the second score with just 10 seconds remaining.
Dallas Marvin and
Dylan Webster assisted on both goals.The Cardinals were able to regroup however and took back the lead with a pair of second period power play goals of their own while keeping Bethel off the board. The Royals got the equalizer in the third period however at 12:49 with a
Dallas Marvin score. Purvis and Webster recorded the assists. Both teams had a pair of shots on goal in the overtime period but the game ended in a 3-3 tie. In the shootout, both teams connected on their first attempts with
Dallas Marvin scoring for Bethel. Marvin also scored the shootout winner Friday night.
Jackson Purvis then converted for Bethel on their second attempt.
Joe Sheppard then gave the Royals a shootout victory by stopping the final two Cardinals attempts.
Bethel's overall record now sits at 3-18-2 heading into the final weekend of play for the Royals. Bethel will take on St. Olaf on Friday night while also honoring their seniors,

Jackson Purvis and
Tucker Gran.
