Royals Suffer 5-4 Loss to UW-La Crosse
WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. -Â The Bethel University men's tennis team was back in action Sunday with a match against the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. The Royals (4-2, 1-1 MIAC) fell just short in the final match of the day to give the Eagles (6-2, 0-0 WIAC) the 5-4 win.
The Royals started the day with a No. 1 singles win by
Hunter Fernelius by a score of 7-6, 6-2. BU also got wins from
Zeke Delain and
Peter Lindberg by scores of 7-6, (11-9) and 6-3, 2-6, (10-6) to tie the match up 3-3 heading into doubles play. The No. 1 doubles team of Fernelius and
Zach Kantor earned an 8-5 win, but BU dropped the No. 3 doubles match 7-9. Tied 4-4 going into the final doubles match, the Royals fell just short dropping the set 4-8.
"We lost to a really good team and ultimately had a chance to win," head coach
Drew Fernelius said. "I'm really proud of the effort the guys put forth."
Men's tennis is back in action next Sunday with a 1 p.m. MIAC match against Concordia College. This is the team's final appearance before their spring break trip to Hawaii.
