Women Place 2nd at MIAC Indoor Championships

RESULTS

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The women's track and field team earned runner-up at the MIAC indoor championships this weekend. "We had a ton of people step up to the plate and deliver for their team this weekend," says Head Coach Andrew Rock. "From freshmen to seniors; jumps, to sprints, to hurdles, to distance, we picked up effort points that made a big difference." The Royals scored 88 team points, edging out St. Olaf for second place by a single point.

Annika Halverson earned eighteen points for her team with a thrilling victory in the Mile (5:01.49) and a gutsy second place finish in the 3000m (10:03.47). Delia Labatt also claimed and event title in the 400m (57.75) and a second place finish in the 200m (25.70). Erin Alpers added another first place finish for the Royals with a 2:16.16 in the 800m. Alpers also placed third in the 600m (1:37.53). The women's 4x400m relay team of Hannah Sankey, Alpers, Syri Williams, and AddieKay Johnson took second place with a 4:02.86.

The freshmen class added some spark by providing points. Anna Hage (Mile), Syri Williams (60m hurdles), Sally Paul (triple jump), and Hannah Sankey (400m/200m) all scored in individual events during their first championship track and field meet in college. "From top to bottom, I'm really proud of the way this team has worked all year," Rock said.

The Royals will continue their season next weekend at a last chance qualifier meet TBD. "We hope to have a good sized group traveling to Birmingham, Alabama in two weeks for the national meet." National qualifiers will be announced on Sunday, March 3rd.
