Doubles Play Carries Royals to Friday Night Victory Over Oles

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Bethel University women's tennis rolled past St. Olaf college 8-1 to stay unbeaten on the season. The Royals (4-0, 2-0 MIAC) swept doubles play to give them a quick 3-0 lead and ultimately helped them secure the win over the previously unbeaten Oles (2-1, 0-1 MIAC).

No. 1 doubles team Maggie Riermann and Mattie Kidder started the team off strong with a statement making 8-1 win. Mackenzie Novak and Jill Weinzetell followed suit with an 8-2 win in the No. 2 doubles match. Sami Hindt and Mattie Lubben rounded out doubles play with an 8-3 victory. No. 1 and 2 singles Maggie Riermann and Mattie Kidder kept it rolling with 6-1, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1 wins respectively. Mackenzie Novak, Jill Weinzetell and Sami Hindt each won their singles match in straight sets as the Royals proved their dominance over the Oles on Friday night.

"All three [doubles teams] got out of the gate and put the hammer down right away," Head coach Drew Fernelius said. "A really good quality 8-1 win."

Up next for BU is a match against University of Wisconsin La-Crosse next Sunday, February 25 at 4 p.m. The Royals dropped a 4-5 heartbreaker to the Eagles last season and hope to avenge that loss next week at the Lifetime Fitness in White Bear Lake.
