Men's 4x4 Lead Nation, Break School Record

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - One week after bursting onto the national scene, the men's 4x400m relay team consisting of
Karl Olsen,
Shawn Monroe,
Isaac Erickson, and
Carl Klamm, ran a NCAA Division III leading time of 3:16.29. This breaks the school record (previously 3:17.76), and is a whopping 1.84 seconds ahead of the second fastest time in Division III. "It was exactly what we were hoping for from those guys," says Head Coach
Andrew Rock on the relay race. "I was nervous and excited before the race because I knew what they were capable of." The Royals relay team defeated Division I and II teams, including the Minnesota Gophers.
The 4x4 was not the only highlight of the weekend.
Boston Knighton-Johnson had a lifetime best in the pole vault, clearing 4.45m (14'7"), placing 5
th overall. That jump also stands as the 5
th best vault in the MIAC this season. Multi-eventer
James Moyer set a lifetime best in the 60m hurdles (8.86), racing his way to a 6
th place finish.
On Saturday, the men's team competed at St. Olaf College in the Tostrud Classic. Klamm took his second victory of the weekend in the 600m, running a MIAC leading 1:22.37.
Elisha Hinton ran a season best in the 60m (7.16) to place him 4
th. Freshman
Brandon Loverude placed 4
th in the 400m race with a season best 52.73.
Tyler Van Lannen lead the field event group with a 4
th place finish in the long jump (6.05m/19'10.25").
The championship season begins for the Royals next weekend as they compete at Macalester College in the MIAC Indoor Championships.
