Royals Drop First Match of Season in 4-5 Loss to Oles
NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Bethel University men's tennis suffered a 4-5 set back against St. Olaf College Saturday afternoon. The Royals (4-1, 1-1 MIAC) fell behind 1-2 to the Oles (2-0, 1-0 MIAC) in doubles play and couldn't make up enough ground in their singles matches.
The No. 2 doubles team
Jakob Bartels and
Zeke Delain had the lone win for the Royals in doubles play with a score of 8-5.
Hunter Fernelius and
Zach Kantor bounced back from their doubles loss with two, straight set singles wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches.
Zeke Delain took the No. 5 singles match 6-2, 6-3 to tie it up at 4-4 heading into the final match of the day.
Noah Ridgway suffered a gut-wrenching tie breaker loss in the No. 6 singles match by a final score of 2-6, 6-4, (7-10).
"It's a disappointing and heartbreaking loss, just came up a little bit short," Head coach
Drew Fernelius said. "We win together and lose together and how we handle adversity is going to show."
The Royals are back in action next Sunday as they faceoff against the University of Wisconsin La-Crosse in a 4 p.m. match at the Lifetime Fitness in White Bear Lake. The Eagles head into the match up 4-2 and are currently riding a three match win streak.
