GRINNELL, Iowa - The women's 4x400m relay team of Hannah Sankey, Delia Labatt, Erin Alpers, and AddieKay Johnson smashed the school record by running 3:55.50 on their way to the victory. That is the second best time in that event this year within NCAA Division III. "Those girls blew me away," says Head Coach Andrew Rock. "We knew they were fit, but I did not expect them to go that fast. Grinnell puts on a competitive meet and our ladies stepped up."
Alpers recorded a victory earlier in the day by pulling away from the field in the final lap of the 800m (2:17.95). In a loaded field, Labatt produced the 8th fastest 400m time in Division III this year (57.51) and placed 3rd. Freshman Anna Hage raced like a veteran in the Mile, placing 2nd (5:14.24). The Royals put three runners in the finals of a competitive 60m Hurdle field, with freshman Syri Williams leading the crew with a 3rd place finish (9.58).
A handful of athletes raced on Friday night at St. Thomas. The highlight of the evening was Annika Halverson running 5:02.32 in the Mile. That time puts her 17th on the national list.
The Royals will be competing next at the University of Minnesota on Saturday, February 17th.
