ST. PETER, Minn. – After collecting their first win of the season in the series opener, the Bethel University men's hockey team dropped game two of the home and home series with Gustavus Adolphus, 3-1.
The Royals (1-10-1, 1-4-1 MIAC) found themselves playing from behind early as the Gusties scored the first goal and never trailed from then on out. Gustavus (4-5-1, 2-3-1 MIAC) scored the lone goal in the first period with 44 seconds remaining before the intermission.
It was a scoreless second period despite the Royals having four power play opportunities. The Gusties racked up seven penalties for 30 minutes including two 10-minute game misconducts.
Bethel bounced back in the third to tie things up at 1-1 as
Jon Skarlis scored his second of the season with
Michael Piehler picking up the assist.
With 5:26 remaining
Nick Eytcheson was whistled for tripping as Gustavus took advantage of the power play to take back the lead with 4:05 remaining.
The Royals went on the power play with 2:05 remaining where they pulled goaltender
Joe Sheppard with 1:23 advantage. Following a wide shot by
Will Reedy, the Gusties were able to score the shorthanded empty netter to secure the 3-1 victory.
Bethel is back in action Thursday, Dec. 6 as they host the Milwaukee School of Engineering at home. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
