Royals Earn Conference Point in Tie with Concordia

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Bethel University men's hockey team continued their six-game home stand this weekend playing host to Concordia College (Minn.). The two M.I.A.C. foes tied 3-3 in the opener before the Cobbers took the shootout and the extra point. Concordia took the series finale Saturday by a score of 4-0.

The Royals are back in action at home on Friday, Nov. 23 against Marian University and Saturday, Nov. 24 against Concordia (Wis.).

Concordia (Minn.) 4, Bethel 0
A three-goal first period led the Cobbers to defeat the Royals in the series finale. All three goals came in the first 11 minutes as the Royals could not respond despite six power play attempts in the game.

Bethel had an early 5-on-3 opportunity in the second period but could not find the back of the net despite outshooting Concordia 15-6.

Johan Kling led the Royals with a game-high five shots while goaltender Joe Sheppard collected 25 saves.

Bethel 3, Concordia (Minn.) 3
A late third period goal for the Cobbers forced an overtime period in the series opener. The teams went scoreless in the five minute overtime as well as the 3-on-3 five minute overtime to force a shootout where Concordia earned the extra point.

The Royals wasted no time putting one in the net as Michael Piehler put Bethel up early with an assist from Josiah Rosen as Bethel took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
A lose puck off a zone faceoff found its way to the stick of senior forward Dallas Marvin who scored his first goal of the season to give the Royals a two goal lead. A Cobbers goal at the 12:18 mark did not deter BU as Nick Ketola rang in a shot to make it 3-1 just before the horn in the second period.

Concordia came out firing cutting the Royal lead to 3-2 at the 8:09 mark in the third before a goal with 1:29 left in regulation forcing the overtime.
