RESULTS
NORTHFIELD, Minn. - As the indoor track and field season begins to hit its stride in late January, so do the Bethel Royals. The men's track and field team finished in second place as a team at the St. Olaf Quad on Friday night, just 23 points behind MIAC rival, St. Thomas (163-140).
"Our guys stepped into a competitive environment and delivered," Head Coach Andrew Rock said. "I'm really proud of how we continue to develop a team that cares for each other, rallies around each other, and pushes each other to be our best."
In the short sprints, freshmen Malachi Lossow stood out from the crowd. Lossow won both the 60m (7.08) and 200m (22.91). He currently ranks fourth in the MIAC rankings in both events. The sprint domination continued in the 400m, as the Royals swept the top three places. Carl Klamm (49.53), Isaac Erickson (50.41), and Shawn Monroe (50.49) also hold the top three times in the MIAC this year. To add to that, Klamm's time ranks him fourth in all of NCAA Division III. That threesome, along with Dan Wahlstedt, also won the 4x400m relay in a time of 3:23.91. That relay team is ranked first in the MIAC and ninth in Division III. Evan Hatton (2:33.67) also came away with a victory in the 1000m over teammate Ezekiel Lelinga (2:35.76), who finished in second.
The Royals combined event athletes competed in the heptathlon at UW-Stout this weekend. Senior captain James Moyer came away with the second best score in school history totally 4547 points. Moyer is currently ranked 10th in Divsion III in the heptathlon.
Come cheer on the Royals on Saturday, February 3rd as Bethel hosts the Gene Gladder Invitational. Field events begin at 10:30 a.m. and running events start at 11:00 a.m. in the Sport and Recreation Center (SRC).
