Royals Men's Tennis Tabbed 5th in MIAC Preseason Poll, Open Season Saturday
The Bethel University men's tennis team is set to open their 2018 season this Saturday with a 5 p.m. match against Central College (Iowa) to be held in Rochester, Minnesota. The Royals, who finished in fourth place in the MIAC last year, were picked to finish fifth in the MIAC Coaches' Preseason Poll which was just released today. Bethel will be replacing their top two players in the lineup from last season in four-year mainstays
Matt Schull and
Kolin Kiekhoefer, who combined for a total of 15 MIAC All-Conference Awards in their outstanding careers. The cupboard is not bare by any means for the Royals however, as they will be led by a trio of MIAC All-Conference honorees in junior
Hunter Fernelius, senior
Jakob Bartels and sophomore
Noah Ridgway. Fernelius will move up to the No. 1 singles slot after going 19-2 at No. 3 singles while Bartels was 12-9 at No. 4 singles last year and will play in the No. 3 singles slot to begin the year. Ridgway earned All-Conference honors for his play in doubles last season as he was 15-3 overall and 7-1 in MIAC doubles matches.
