Second Quarter Springboards Bethel Past Carleton

NORTHFIELD, Minn.—The Bethel women got back to their winning ways on Saturday afternoon when they took on Carleton College in Northfield. The Royals (12-5, 7-3 MIAC) took control of the game in the first half and never looked back as they won handily over the Knights (7-10, 4-6 MIAC), 80-57. The Royals shot over 50 percent from the field and hit eight three-pointers at a 47-percent clip throughout the game.

The first quarter got off to an even start as the Royals found themselves up by one point going into the second quarter where Bethel then took over and started to dominate. BU outscored Carleton 24-8 in the second frame, holding the Knights to just 30 percent shooting from the field. Bethel's Hannah Johnson shot very efficiently all afternoon going 8-12 for the day and added 7 of her 17 points in the second period on 3-of-4 shooting.

Carleton battled back in the second half, but the strong second quarter wasn't enough to get past the Royals. Bethel led by as many as 24 with about three minutes to go in the third quarter. BU scored 22 points off of 21 turnovers by Carleton. They also got great minutes from their bench as they added 26 points, which more than doubled the points scored by Carleton's bench. The ball was moving for Bethel as evidence by their 14 assists to Carleton's five.

Taite Anderson and Abby Miller both had excellent days adding 15 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists and 13 points, respectively.

The Bethel women will take on Concordia this Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 7:45 p.m. in the Robertson Center.
