Zimmermann, Davison Join Women’s Basketball Staff

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Bethel University's women's basketball program has reached new heights over the last four years, as the Royals have accumulated a 79-29 (.731) record since the start of the 2013-14 season. One key to success during that span was the play of four-year standout Kalli Zimmermann, who after graduating, now joins Coach Jon Herbrechtsmeyer's staff as a graduate assistant over the next two years. Also joining "Herbie" and Co. in 2017-18 is Angie Davison, who was a standout player at the University of Northern Iowa the past four seasons.

"I am very excited to announce the hiring of Kalli Zimmermann and Angie Davison," said Jon Herbrechtsmeyer. "Both helped lead their teams to NCAA Tournament appearances in their respective careers and that is a level we want to be at on a consistent basis."

Zimmermann was a three-time MIAC All-Conference recipient, despite missing nearly her entire senior season due to injury. She was also a three-time MIAC Player of the Week, a one-time D3hoops.com All-Region honoree, and a member of the USA Division III basketball team that toured in Brazil. Off the court, Zimmermann earned CoSIDA Academic All-District accolades once and MIAC Academic All-Conference recognition twice.

"Kalli has been a leader throughout her entire career, which helped our program achieve the most successful four-year span (from a win-lose perspective) in program history," commented Herbrechtsmeyer. "She always demonstrated her talent in every game. However, what the casual fan can't always recognize is that as great a player as she was, she is an even better person.  Our program is tremendously lucky to have her continue her amazing career now as coach in our program!"

The Champlin, Minn., native finished her career with 1,158 points, 567 rebounds, 190 assists, 179 steals, and 113 blocks in 83 games played. She logged over 2,200 minutes, shot nearly 48.8 percent from the floor, and made over 70 percent of her free throws attempted. Zimmermann helped the Royals reach the MIAC Playoffs all four years and the NCAA Tournament in 2014-15.

"I feel so honored to have the opportunity to remain involved with such a great basketball program like Bethel has, but in a new way this time around," mentioned Zimmermann. "I'm looking forward to being challenged by the coaching staff along with the girls in the program. I cannot wait to see where this team will go this year and I'm just glad I can be part of it! "

Davison played a significant role all four years at UNI, as she appeared in 115 games and started 33 for the Panthers from 2013-17. Davison led Northern Iowa to the 2017 NCAA tournament for just the third time in program history after averaging 5.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.0 steals per game as a starter.

"Angie comes from a basketball family and it is in her blood," said Herbrechtsmeyer. "I love that she was asked to play a number of different roles during her career at UNI, which will only aid her ability to relate to our players. Her work ethic has always been great and I am excited that she comes from outside the Bethel basketball family and will bring a number of new ideas to our program from her time as a great player at both Maple Grove and Northern Iowa. Like Kalli her character is second to none. We are very excited to add her to our staff!"

Off the court Davison, a four-time MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award winner and four-time MVC Honor Roll honoree, was selected to the 2017 WBCA Allstate Good Works Team. She was also recognized with the 2017 Dr. Charlotte West Scholar-Athlete Award, which honors one female and one male athlete in the Missouri Valley Conference for the highest excellence in academic achievement, athletics, service, and leadership.

"I am very excited to be a member of the Bethel staff," commented Davison. "This will be a great opportunity for me to learn from some very experienced and talented coaches who put Christ as the center of their lives and coaching."

What others are saying about Zimmermann and Davison:

"Kalli's collegiate career in the MIAC is extraordinary! Her work ethic, commitment to team goals nad a sincere appreciation for her teammates make her a special player. How exciting to have her continue her presence in the MIAC as a coach. I know she will use her influence to help others, bring her passion and make her mark felt in the Bethel program!
Ruth Sinn, Head Coach at the University of St. Thomas

"Angie is a passionate, organized, and a relentless worker!  She brings great basketball knowledge and most importantly is of the highest character.  She is a great addition to the Bethel coaching staff."
