Bethel Softball Drops Pair of Road Contests at St. Kate's

ST. PAUL — Bethel University softball traveled to St. Catherine University to play a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The trip did not go as hoped for, as the Royals (7-12, 3-4 MIAC) dropped both games to the hosting Wildcats (18-8, 6-2 MIAC).

Game 1
The Royals got off to a rocky start in the first game of the doubleheader when they gave up a two-run home run in the bottom half of the first inning to Kylie Macziewski. The Royals would struggle to score in the first game as their lone runs came in the top half of the seventh inning when Anna Nichols ripped a two-run double that scored Wendy Roberts and Alexa Hanowski. Nichols' double made the score 6-2, which would end up being the final.

Anna Nicols also pitched and gave up six runs, nine hits and struck out three while picking up the loss in six innings of work. Nichols drops to 5-8 on the season following the loss.

Game 2
Game two did not go much better for the Royals. The Wildcats pounced early in the bottom of the first and scored 12 unearned runs. The inning was highlighted by a grand slam by Jenna George. Hannah Schmidt recovered to not allow any more runs the rest of the way but the damage was done and the Royals would lose 12-0.

The Royals two losses put their record at 7-12 overall and 3-4 in conference. Catch them Sunday when they host a doubleheader against Concordia College. First pitch will be at 1 p.m.
