LAKEVILLE, Minn.— The Bethel University men's tennis team came into their afternoon match with Carleton College coming off a 1-1 record in their previous weekend and dropped a close match against the Knights by a score of 7-2. With the loss, Bethel's record moves to 5-3 on the season. The afternoon started by Bethel taking one of the three doubles matches, before losing five of the six singles matches.
The only doubles win for the Royals came at No. 2 doubles where
Kolin Kiekhoefer and
Noah Ridgway defeated their opponent by a score of 8-3. No. 1 doubles pair of
Matt Schull and
Hunter Fernelius fell in a competitive match 6-8.
Jakob Bartels and
Kent Schaller also lost in a tight match at No. 3 doubles 8-5. Singles proved to be just as challenging for the Royals.
Kolin Kiekhoefer's victory at No. 2 singles was the only singles win for the Royals. He won by a score of 6-1, 6-0. No. 1 singles player
Matt Schull lost in a second set tiebreaker 5-7 after losing the first set 3-6.
Noah Ridgway also had a close match at No. 5 singles where he lost 4-6, 3-6.
The Royals next match comes on their spring break trip in Florida where they will play eight matches beginning with Cornell College on Sunday, March 12
th.
