Box Score 4 Spring break 2017 has begun for Bethel University sport teams, as many teams have made their way to warmer climates for the week off of school. Throughout the nine-day period, we'll try to keep you up-to-date on all the happenings of each team traveling for spring break. Baseball
Bethel University's baseball team endured a heartbreaker Thursday afternoon, as the Royals dropped a 3-1 contest to No. 20-ranked Augustana College. BU led the Vikings (9-1) 1-0 after
Sam Horner hit a sac-fly in the top of the seventh, but Augustana got three back in the bottom of the eighth and escaped with a two-run victory.
Michael Willman allowed two runs on four hits, one walk, and one hit-by-pitch, while striking out five in 7.1 innings pitched.
Esteban Velasco recorded two of Bethel's six hits, while
Austin Ledin finished 1-for-3 with a double and one walk. The Royals continue their trip Friday with a nine-inning affair against Wisconsin Lutheran at the Player Development Complex. First pitch is scheduled for noon (ET).
Men's Golf
The Bethel University men's golf team played 27 holes at Kings North Golf Course in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. They still needed work on their putting game, so they finished their day at Mt. Atlanticus mini golf. The Royals will compete against Coastal Carolina Friday.
Women's Golf
The Bethel University women's golf team played their final round of golf for the week at San Jose Country Club, the oldest course in Saint Augustine. The Royals will enjoy an off day Friday before returning home Saturday.
Softball
The Bethel University softball team dropped a pair of contests to Oswego State and Olivet College Thursday afternoon. The Royals suffered five errors in game one against Oswego State and fell by a final score of 10-3. BU fell to Olivet immediately after by a final score of 5-0.
Anna Nichols pitched a complete-game performance in both games, allowing nine runs in 13.0 innings pitched.
Wendy Roberts 2-for-5 with a pair of walks. Bethel finishes their spring break trip with a pair of games Friday against Ohio Wesleyan University (2-4) and Keene State (4-5).
Men's Tennis (
Stats)
The Bethel University men's tennis team finished their spring break trip with a pair of 9-0 victories. The Royals topped Saint Michael's College in the early morning and later shutout Edgewood College after lunch. All 11 guys that traveled were able to play throughout the day, helping BU improve to 12-3 on the season.
Women's Tennis (
Stats)
The Bethel University women's tennis team closed out their spring break trip with a tough 6-3 victory over Schreiner University Thursday morning.
Sydney Parkinson and
Jill Weinzettel had the most grueling match of the day, falling at No. 1 doubles 9-8 (7-5) after trailing 4-1 early. But
Mattie Kidder and
Anna Browning and
Sami Hindt and Maddie Lubben won at No. 2 and 3 doubles to go ahead 2-1 early. Kidder, Parkinson, Weinzettel, and Hindt all captured victories at No. 1, 2, 3, and 4 singles to close out the 6-3 triumph. The Royals are now 12-3 overall.
Men's and Women's Track and Field
The Bethel University men's and women's track and field team went hiking up Cowles Mountain in Mission Trails Regional Park Thursday morning and reached the highest point in San Diego County. Following their group hike, the team practiced at Point Loma University and finished their day at Mission Beach.
