OWATONNA, Minn.-- The Bethel University men's tennis team took care of business Saturday afternoon, defeating both Wartburg and Bethany Lutheran handely. The Royals won two of the three doubles matches against Wartburg and then swept all three doubles matches against Bethany Lutheran. Bethel won all twelve of their singles matches on the day.
Wartburg started the morning with a win, defeating Bethel's No. 1 doubles team of senior
Matt Schull and sophomore
Hunter Fernelius, by a score of 6-8. Bethel rallied after that with No. 2 doubles
Kolin Kiekhoefer and
Noah Ridgway winning 8-1.
Jakob Bartels and
Henry Morris also won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles. No. 1 singles player
Matt Schull won handedly with scores of 6-1 and 6-0.
Noah Ridgway, No. 5 singles, followed suit by winning 6-0 then 6-2. The closest competition against Wartburg came at No. 6 singles, as
Henry Morris pulled out a close set by the score of 7-5, and then 6-2. Against Bethany Lutheran, No. 2 doubles,
Nick Knudsen and
Peter Lindberg, held out to win the tiebreaker in a tight match for the score of 9-8. No. 2 singles,
Nick Knudsen impressively shut out his opponent, winning both sets 6-0. Freshman
Steven Lee, No. 6 singles, rolled to 6-1 and 6-2 wins.
The Royals have their first MIAC competition next Saturday at Lifetime Fitness in White Bear Lake against what is expected to be a very strong Concordia College Cobbers team beginning at 2:30 p.m.
