ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—The Bethel University women's basketball team has reached the 20-win mark for the third time in the last four years thanks to Wednesday's 74-49 home victory over Concordia College. The Royals (20-4, 15-2 MIAC) dominated the Cobbers (8-16, 5-12 MIAC) from the start and cruised to a 25-point victory, which proved to be the team's 10th consecutive triumph.
BU stormed out of the gates with an 11-2 run to begin the midweek matchup and despite the Cobbers' mini-run that cut the lead to six with 7:53 remaining in the second quarter, Concordia never came within eight the rest of the game. In fact, Bethel closed out the final 10:39 on a 24-10 run, which led to the 74-49 finish.
MIAC Player of the Week
Hannah Johnson continued her dominance, as the sophomore finished 7-of-13 for 24 points, 10 rebounds, and five blocks. Johnson has now recorded six double-doubles in the last eight games and nine throughout the season.
Taite Anderson also scored in double figures with 11 points, four rebounds, and two steals, while four other players scored seven points or more. Included in that group was
Hannah Simpson, who tallied eight points and seven rebounds, and
Shanni Moorse, who recorded eight points, five boards, and three steals.
Bethel's bench outscored Concordia 19-4 and the Royals dominated the Cobbers in the paint by a final score of 32-14. BU also shot 44.4 percent from the floor, while holding Concordia to just 24.1 percent shooting. Bethel came into the game ranked No. 1 among all Division III programs in 3-point percentage (39.9 percent), but shot just 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from downtown.
The Royals close out the regular season Saturday, February 18, when they celebrate their seniors with the home finale against St. Catherine. BU and the Wildcats are scheduled to tipoff at 3 p.m.
