WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn.— The Bethel Royals men's tennis team came into this afternoon's match unbeaten and continued their great play with a 7-2 win over Concordia College. Last weekend the Royals defeated both Bethany Lutheran and Wartburg by scores of 9-0 and 8-1 respectively. Saturday the Royals picked up where they left off by sweeping all three doubles matches against Concordia and continued to have success in singles, losing only two matches.
No. 1 singles player
Matt Schull and No. 3 singles player
Hunter Fernelius teamed up and prevailed in a tight No. 1 doubles match by a score of 8-3.
Kolin Kiekhoefer and
Noah Ridgway followed in another tough match at No. 2 doubles, winning 8-4.
Henry Morris and
Jakob Bartels cruised to an 8-1 win, completing the doubles sweep. Bethel went on to win four out of the six singles matches, one of which was by No. 5 player
Noah Ridgway who beat a tough opponent 6-0 and 6-2.
Kolin Kiekhoefer followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win. No. 6 player
Nick Knudsen won in a third set tiebreaker. The Royals only dropped two close matches, one of which being in No. 1 singles, where senior
Matt Schull lost to one of the best players in the region 6-4, 1-6, (8-10). Jakob Bartles also lost a close match 1-6, 6-7 (8-10) in a second set tiebreak.
"It was a really good win for us," Coach Fernelius said. "Really proud of the effort and the enthusiasm."
Bethel's next match comes on Saturday February 18
th at 8:30 a.m. They will be facing off against the Gusties of Gustavus Adolphus at the Lifetime Fitness in White Bear Lake, Minn.
