RIVER FALLS, Wis. — Bethel University's women's basketball team recorded an exciting 67-55 come-from-behind road win over previously unbeaten UW-River Falls. The Royals (2-1, 0-0 MIAC), who trailed the Falcons (3-1, 0-0 WIAC) 40-46 after three quarters of play, outscored UW-RF 27-9 in the fourth quarter—thanks to an 11-point outburst by Abby Miller—and stole a road win at the newly-constructed Page Arena.
The triumph was impressive because of the fourth-quarter deficit against an unbeaten opponent on the road, but perhaps even more impressive was that BU played without Hannah Johnson, who averaged 22.5 points, 14.0 rebounds, and 2.0 blocks per game coming into the night, for the final 6:29.
Instead of Johnson, it was Abby Miller, Taite Anderson, and Jasmin Bretoi that propelled Bethel to a monster final frame. The trio was a combined 6-for-6 from outside the arc in the final 10 minutes. Miller, who was 3-for-3 from downtown in the quarter, finished with 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting, while Anderson, who was 2-for-2 from 3-point land in the fourth (and the entire game), also composed 18 points, along with seven rebounds.
Hannah Johnson added 12 points, five rebounds, and two assists in just 15 minutes and Jasmin Bretoi shot 3-of-7 from the floor for eight points, three assists, and two boards. Hannah Simpson and Haylee Barker combined for 11 points and four rebounds.
The Royals limited the Falcons to just 36.8 percent shooting from the floor and a dismal 18.2 percent mark from outside the arc. UW-River Falls also did themselves no favor at the line, shooting 11-of-18 from the charity stripe. BU forced UW-RF into 23 turnovers, which helped Bethel outscore their opponents 21-16 in points off turnovers.
Despite an impressive road win over an unbeaten opponent Tuesday, Bethel's week doesn't get any easier. The Royals welcome No. 12-ranked George Fox to campus for a Saturday matinee on November 25. Tipoff between BU and the Bruins is scheduled for 3 p.m.
