Second Half Rallies Help Bethel Rebound with Win over Augsburg

ARDEN HILLS, Minn.—Bethel University's women's basketball team rebounded from Wednesday's first MIAC loss with a 71-64 victory over Augsburg College Saturday afternoon. The Royals (10-3, 5-1 MIAC) had six players score eight or more points and collectively shot 53.2 percent from the floor en route to a seven-point win over the Auggies (8-5, 1-5 MIAC).

BU held a 17-11 advantage after the opening quarter of play, but the Auggies knotted things up at 29-29 heading into the halftime intermission. The Royals went on a 9-0 run midway through the third quarter and a 13-1 run at the beginning of the fourth quarter, though, which gave Bethel enough breathing room down the stretch.

Play was pretty even, statistically speaking, but where the Royals separated themselves was in shooting percentage. Not only did BU shoot better than 50 percent from the floor, but they shot 7-of-11 from downtown as well. Meanwhile, Augsburg was held to 32.8 percent shooting, which included a 2-of-9 mark from outside the arc.

Shanni Moorse and Taite Anderson each led Bethel with 13 points. Moorse added five rebounds, while Anderson grabbed seven boards and dished out three assists. Angie Kirchoff also scored in double figures with 10 points, two rebounds, and two steals. Hannah Johnson recorded six points, 12 rebounds, four blocks, and two assists.

The Royals continue their season Wednesday evening, when they host Gustavus Adolphus College. Bethel and the Gusties are scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m.
