Box Score 4 Tuesday had several ups and downs, but perhaps the most exhilarating part of Tuesday's spring break experience was a in-home celebration for the teams competing in the Orlando area. The softball and men's and women's tennis team were treated to an incredible night at a home in Windermere, FL, where they could swim, watch movies, play games, and enjoy an incredible view.
BaseballThe Bethel University baseball team split Tuesday's twin bill with UW-Stout. The Royals utilized a seven-run sixth inning in game one to overcome a three-run deficit and went on to win by a final score of 8-4. Despite the late-inning runs, BU was unable to score more than one run in game two and as a result suffered a 2-1 loss in extra innings.
Michael Bohlke improved to 2-0 on the season with his second win in relief in game one. Meanwhile,
Noah Luedtke gave an exceptional performance in game two (6.1 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K), but was unable to earn a decision.
Bret Neuville went 2-for-3 with a walk, one run, and one RBI in the first game, while
Bryce Marquardt and
Sam Horner each finished 2-for-4. None of the BU players were able to muster more than one hit in the second game, however,
Ryan Evenson finished 1-for-1 with a walk as well.
The Royals play a doubleheader against Skidmore College tomorrow with the first pitch of game one scheduled for 9 a.m.
SoftballThe BU softball team dropped a pair of heart-breakers Tuesday morning, as the Royals led in both games but suffered unearned runs late in both games which led to an 0-2 record on the day. Bethel's first game resulted in a 4-3 loss to Stockton University, which was followed by an 8-7 loss against Clarkson University.
Shelbi Swenson finished the day 5-for-6 at the plate with one run scored.
Micayla Moore went 3-for-7 with three RBI and one run scored and
Abbie Bircher finished 3-for-8 with two runs scored and one driven in.
Caroline Kivisto hit her second home run of the trip in game two against Clarkson.
The Royals face The College of New Jersey and Anderson University (IN) Wednesday at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at Hancock Park.
TennisThe tennis teams continue to cruise down in Florida, as both teams routed Illinois Wesleyan by a final score of 9-0.
The 9-0 victory for the men's team is the fourth straight—all coming down in Orlando. The men are now 11-3 on the season with a perfect 4-0 mark in Florida. Kolin Kiekhoeffer outlasted his opponent 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot, while
Hunter Fernelius was victorious at the No. 3 spot 6-3, 6-2.
Luke Palmquist,
Henry Morris, and
Peter Lindberg collectively lost two games in the No. 4, 5, and 6 singles matches. The men take on the University of Dubuque and UW-La Crosse Wednesday at Oak Street Tennis Courts.
The women's team improved to 10-2 on the season and 3-0 in Florida with a sweep over IWU.
Mattie Kidder topped her foe 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles match, while
Samantha Hindt and
Sarah Wallace both won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 and No. 6 singles. Bethel's women will compete in a pair of matches Wednesday against Groucher College and the University of Dubuque at Oak Street Tennis Courts.
