Royals Win Third Straight with 74-52 Victory over Macalester

ST. PAUL—The Bethel University women's basketball team made it three straight wins and eight in their last 11 with Saturday's decisive 74-52 road win over Macalester College Saturday afternoon. The Royals (13-8, 9-5 MIAC) used exceptional shooting to down the Scots (7-14, 2-12 MIAC) and move to within one game of third place in the MIAC standings.

The key difference in the weekend matinee was BU's 28-4 advantage in bench points and 27-14 margin in points off of turnovers. The Royals forced Macalester into 20 points throughout the entire 40 minutes of play, opposed to their 15.

Also factoring into Bethel's success was how well they shot the ball throughout the entire game. Together, the Royals finished 26-of-55 (47.3%) from the floor and 8-of-13 (61.5%) from outside the arc. BU was also 14-of-17 (82.4%) from the charity stripe.

Leading the way for the Royals was sophomore Molly O'Toole, who recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds in 32 minutes of play. Also scoring 12 points off the bench was Abby Miller, who was 2-of-2 from downtown and 6-of-6 from the foul line.

Shanni Moorse tallied in 11 points and six rebounds, while Sydney Schultz and Rachel Parupsky each poured in nine points. Hannah Johnson stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, seven boards, four assists, and three blocks.

Regan Fruh had a game-high 22 points and 15 rebounds in 39 minutes played for Macalester.

Four regular-season games remain for the Bethel University women's basketball team. Among the four opponents left on the schedule are the MIAC's top two teams, including Saint Mary's and St. Thomas. The Royals host the Cardinals on Wednesday, February 10 at 7 p.m., followed by Saturday's date with the Tommies at 3 p.m.
