ST. PAUL—Bethel University's women's basketball team won their fourth straight game thanks to a 92-49 win over Hamline University on Saturday afternoon. The Royals (5-1, 2-0 MIAC) led the Pipers (3-3, 0-2 MIAC) by three points after the opening quarter, but outscored the home team 33-5 in the second and cruised to the 43-point victory.
There were three lead changes in the opening quarter of play, but after Bethel went ahead 19-18 with 1:14 remaining in the first frame it was all BU from there. The Royals recorded a 41-9 run over the next 11 minutes, which afforded BU a 56-25 lead at the half. Bethel then outscored Hamline 15-11 in the third and 21-13 in the fourth, which led to the 92-49 result.
BU outrebounded the Pipers 47-34 and forced Hamline into 18 turnovers, opposed to their 11. As a result, Bethel outscored Hamline 48-26 in the paint and 26-6 in points off turnovers. The Royals finished Saturday's matinee shooting 54.0 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent from beyond the 3-point line, opposed to the Pipers, who shot under 30 percent throughout the game.
Four players on the Bethel lineup ended up with 10 or more points, including
Abby Miller,
Kalli Zimmermann,
Taite Anderson, and
Hannah Johnson.
Abby Miller led the Royals with 19 points and two rebounds, while
Kalli Zimmermann recorded 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Taite Anderson posted 14 points and seven boards, while Hannah managed to finish the game with her double-double of the season despite limited minutes due to foul trouble on 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Hamline's Ivanne Robertson led the Pipers with 14 points, while Reilly Geistfeld finished with eight points ands seven rebounds.
Bethel, who has won four straight, looks to stay on their winning streak Monday, December 5, when they head down Snelling Ave. to face the University of Northwestern-St. Paul in the Ericksen Center at 7:30 p.m.
