MEQUON, Wis. – The Bethel University women's hockey team completed the series sweep of the Concordia University-Wisconsin Falcons by a 4-2 score as
Caroline Kivisto, who scored Friday's overtime game winner, scored short-handed and empty net goals on Saturday to lead Bethel. The sweep improves Bethel to .500 overall on the season at 5-5-2.
The Falcons struck first, scoring just 2:10 into the game.
Lauren Kolak answered for the Royals with a goal at 11:26 in the first period with an assist from
Sarina Goos. Just a minute-and-a-half later Kivisto scored her first unassisted goal off a pass from
Natalie Simons to put the Royals up 2-1. The only second period scoring came late when CUW tied the game back up at two on a power play goal.
Wendy Roberts gave Bethel the lead back at 7:21 in the third period at 3-2 with assists to
Erika Geary and Goos. Kivisto then padded the Royals lead with an empty net goal with just a minute remaining in the game.
CUW was just 1-for-6 on the power play Bethel was 1-for-3.
Michelle Klimstra made 21 saves for Bethel, including nine in the first period.
The Royals will now turn their attention back to MIAC play as they will take on the Augsburg College Auggies next weekend. Friday's contest will take place in Bethel University Arena at 7 p.m. The Royals currently sit just one point behind the second place Auggies in the MIAC standings.
