ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Bethel University women's hockey team completed the series sweep of the College of Saint Benedict Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 victory. After shutting out the Blazers on Friday night, the Royals had to come from behind on Saturday after CSB scored the games first goal midway through the first period. The Royals scored two quick goals in the middle of the second period to take back the game and win the series.
The Royals dynamic freshman duo of
Sarina Goos and
Erika Geary accounted for both Bethel goals. With Saint Ben's scoring at 8:27 in the first period, Bethel did not answer back until 7:09 in the second with a power play goal. Goos scored the goal with Geary assisting. It was the third goal of the season for the forward from Roseau, Minnesota and the second in as many games. The duo flipped on the Royals next score at 11:50 in the second as Goos set Geary up for the game winner. It was the second career goal for Geary as both of the freshman have recorded eight assists on the season, giving Goos a team high 11 points with Geary next at 10.
Bethel scored their one power play goal on four chances while CSB was 0-for-3 on the power play. The shot totals were even for the two teams at 32 a piece as
Maggie Straka made 31 saves, including 14 in the third period alone.
The win improves Bethel to 8-7-2 overall, their first time climbing above the .500 plateau this season. In MIAC play Bethel is a solid 6-2-2 as they now sit in a tie for third place with Concordia, just one point behind second place Augsburg and three behind league leader St. Thomas.
